| I don't know if anyone watched Oprah the other day, but the whole show was about parts of Africa, and how we have actually claimed genocide in parts of Sudan. There are these children in Uganda that they call the "Night walkers," and they are forced to walked for miles every night just to find a safe place to sleep. Some college students from California went there, and talked to some of them, and they told them they would rather die than live on this earth any longer. They spoke of a brother of one of the boys who didn't make it through one of the nights. It brought me to tears just to see the faces of the children, and think of how the mothers of all these starving babies can't do anything for them. In one place in Sudan, the women will go out at night to get water and will be raped on the way, but if the men went instead they would be killed.
And all of this is Government sponsored killings in Africa. There is no protection for these people. Their own government is the one doing all of this to them. There are several celebrities that are trying to get the word out about this to get help to these parts of the world. George Clooney and his father went to Sudan to witness first hand what's going on. But, it's amazing the strength and bravery that these people have. They go through what is pretty much Hell, and then somebody with a camera comes and their faces just light up. If you didn't see it, these children are unlike any other children I've ever seen. They have been through the worst situations you could possibly imagine, yet they have the biggest smiles. Apparently, the UN can't do anything to help them without Political Capital, or whatever that means. I mean, it's not just the United States' Problem, it's the world's problem, but I don't know who will step up to help them. I know everybody, once they hear about it, wants to help, but doesn't know how. I don't know how, but it's good to be aware, and when the oppurtunity comes, maybe I can help. |
